One budget, both sides of the border.

If your money lives in Canadian and US dollars at once, most budgeting apps make you pick one. Cadence holds CAD, USD and GBP together, tracks TFSA, RRSP and FHSA alongside 401(k), Roth IRA and HSA, and works in both countries from $2.49 CAD per month.

What a cross-border budget app has to get right

CAD and USD side by side. Hold both currencies (plus GBP) at once and choose the one you want to read your totals in. Nothing gets flattened at import.
Both countries’ registered accounts. TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RESP and RDSP alongside 401(k), Roth IRA, HSA and 529 plans - in the same net worth picture.
Actually available on both sides of the border. Cadence works in Canada and the USA, with bank syncing for both. Copilot Money is US-only.
The alternatives do not really do this. YNAB gives you one currency per budget, so your two countries never add up. Monarch and Copilot offer no multi-currency at all.
On your phone, wherever you are. Native iOS and Android apps plus a full web app, all in sync - useful when you are actually moving between countries.
Priced for a second app, not instead of one. From $2.49 CAD / $1.99 USD per month, against roughly $8 to $9 USD for YNAB, Monarch and Copilot.
Honest about the limit. Cadence covers CAD, USD and GBP. If you hold accounts in many more currencies than that, a breadth-focused app will suit you better.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best budgeting app for someone with Canadian and US accounts?

You want three things in one app: both currencies held together rather than converted away, both countries’ registered account types, and availability in both countries. Cadence does all three - CAD, USD and GBP side by side, TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RESP and RDSP alongside 401(k), Roth IRA, HSA and 529 plans, on iOS, Android and web.

How does Cadence handle CAD and USD together?

You hold accounts in each currency as they actually are, and choose the display currency you want to think in. Nothing is flattened into a single currency at import, so a US chequing account stays a US chequing account while your overall picture still adds up.

Do YNAB, Monarch or Copilot handle this?

Not well. YNAB allows one currency per budget, so Canadian and US accounts mean separate budgets that never add up together. Monarch does not offer multi-currency. Copilot Money offers neither multi-currency nor Canadian availability - it is US-only.

I am a snowbird. Does this work for a few months a year in the US?

Yes. Spending in USD while your income and most accounts stay in CAD is exactly the case multi-currency handles - your US spending shows up in USD where it happened, and rolls into your overall picture in whichever currency you prefer to read.

What if I hold accounts in many currencies, not just two?

Cadence supports CAD, USD and GBP. If you genuinely hold accounts across many more currencies than that, an app built around broad multi-currency support will serve you better - we would rather tell you that than have you find out after signing up.

Is Cadence available in both Canada and the USA?

Yes, in both, with bank syncing for Canadian and US banks on the Cadence+ and Premium plans. You can also run it entirely by hand on any plan.

Is Cadence free?

Cadence is a paid subscription with a 14-day free trial (a card is required to start the trial). Plans start at $2.49 CAD / $1.99 USD per month billed annually, plus a one-time Lifetime option. There is no permanently free tier.
