You want three things in one app: both currencies held together rather than converted away, both countries’ registered account types, and availability in both countries. Cadence does all three - CAD, USD and GBP side by side, TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RESP and RDSP alongside 401(k), Roth IRA, HSA and 529 plans, on iOS, Android and web.
You hold accounts in each currency as they actually are, and choose the display currency you want to think in. Nothing is flattened into a single currency at import, so a US chequing account stays a US chequing account while your overall picture still adds up.
Not well. YNAB allows one currency per budget, so Canadian and US accounts mean separate budgets that never add up together. Monarch does not offer multi-currency. Copilot Money offers neither multi-currency nor Canadian availability - it is US-only.
Yes. Spending in USD while your income and most accounts stay in CAD is exactly the case multi-currency handles - your US spending shows up in USD where it happened, and rolls into your overall picture in whichever currency you prefer to read.
Cadence supports CAD, USD and GBP. If you genuinely hold accounts across many more currencies than that, an app built around broad multi-currency support will serve you better - we would rather tell you that than have you find out after signing up.
Yes, in both, with bank syncing for Canadian and US banks on the Cadence+ and Premium plans. You can also run it entirely by hand on any plan.
Cadence is a paid subscription with a 14-day free trial (a card is required to start the trial). Plans start at $2.49 CAD / $1.99 USD per month billed annually, plus a one-time Lifetime option. There is no permanently free tier.
