Budgets

Create and manage monthly and annual budgets to track your spending.

Creating a Budget

To create a new budget:

  1. Tap the + button on the Budgets page.
  2. Enter a name for your budget (e.g., “Groceries”).
  3. Choose the Budget Type — Monthly or Annual — depending on whether you want the budget to reset each month or track a yearly total.
  4. Set your target spending amount.
  5. Choose an icon to make it easy to identify at a glance.
  6. Link one or more spending categories so transactions are automatically assigned to this budget.

Monthly vs Annual Budgets

Cadence supports two budget types:

  • Monthly— Resets at the start of each month. Best for recurring expenses like groceries, dining, or entertainment.
  • Annual— Tracks spending over the full calendar year. Useful for categories with irregular timing like travel, gifts, or home maintenance.

Tracking Your Spending

Each budget displays a progress bar showing how much you have spent relative to your budget amount. As transactions come in, the bar fills up. When you exceed the budget limit, the progress bar turns red so you can quickly see which categories need attention.

Rollover

Enable rollover on a monthly budget to carry unused amounts into the next month. For example, if you budget $400 for groceries but only spend $350, the remaining $50 rolls over, giving you $450 to work with next month. Only positive unused budget carries forward — a month you overspend never rolls in as a negative.

Reordering Budgets

Drag budgets in the list to reorder them however you like. Put your most important or frequently checked budgets at the top for quick access.

Budget Tabs

The Budget page is organised into four tabs:

  • Overview— A spending summary showing all your budgets and their current progress.
  • Income— Track the money coming in for the period.
  • Bills— Keep your committed, recurring expenses in one place.
  • Budgets— Set up new budgets and adjust existing amounts, categories, and settings.
