Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Cadence.

Is my financial data secure?

Yes. Cadence uses bank-level encryption to protect your data. Bank connections are handled through Plaid, a trusted third-party provider used by thousands of financial apps. Your login credentials are never stored by Cadence. See the Security article for more details on two-factor authentication and other protections.

What happens when my free trial ends?

After your 14-day trial, you'll need to choose a plan to continue using Cadence. A payment method is required to start the trial, so you can cancel any time before it ends to avoid being charged. Your data is preserved whether you subscribe immediately or come back later. See Account & Subscription for plan details.

Can I use Cadence without connecting a bank account?

Absolutely. You can use Cadence entirely with manual transaction entry and manual account balances. Bank syncing is optional and available on Cadence+ and Premium plans. Many users prefer the manual approach for greater control.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Export Data. You can download your financial data at any time. See the Privacy & Data Management article for details.

Why don't my transactions match my bank exactly?

Synced transactions can take a few hours to appear, and pending transactions may take 1–3 business days. If transactions are missing after 24 hours, see Troubleshooting Connections for troubleshooting steps.

Can I track accounts in different currencies?

Cadence supports setting your Primary Currency in Settings → Currencies. All amounts are displayed in your chosen currency.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings → Account → Manage Subscription, which opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel. Your access continues until the end of your paid period. See Account & Subscription for full details.

What's the difference between categories and budgets?

Categories describe whata transaction is (like “Food and Drink”), while budgets describe whereyou're tracking the spending (like “Groceries”). See the Categories article for a full explanation.

Is Cadence available in the USA?

Yes. Cadence supports both Canadian and American banks, account types, and currencies (CAD and USD). Whether you live in Canada or the United States, you can use Cadence to track your finances.

Is there a free version of Cadence?

Cadence offers a 14-day free trial on every plan. After the trial, plans start at $1.99 USD/month billed annually. Every plan includes all of Cadence’s features - budgets, net worth tracking, goals, reports, portfolio tracking, and smart features. The paid tiers differ mainly in how much bank syncing they include.

Does Cadence sell my financial data?

No. Cadence never sells your data, never uses it to train AI models, and never shares it with third parties for advertising. Your data is encrypted and protected with bank-level security. See the Security article for more details.

How is Cadence different from Monarch, YNAB, or Copilot?

Cadence is significantly more affordable - from $1.99/mo compared to $14.99/mo for Monarch or YNAB. Cadence is built specifically for Canadians with TFSA, RRSP, and FHSA tracking (YNAB doesn't support these, and Copilot Money is US-only). Cadence is also privacy-first - we never sell your data or use it to train AI models. All features are included in every plan; only bank syncing costs extra. See our full comparison for details.

Does Cadence work offline?

Cadence requires an internet connection. Your data is securely stored in the cloud and accessible from any device - iPhone, iPad, Android, or web browser.
