Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the questions we are actually asked.
Updated
Is Cadence the same as Cadence Money?
Yes. Cadence is the app; Cadence Money is the brand and company (Cadence Money Inc.) behind it. Many people search for “Cadence Money” and it is the same personal finance app.
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. Cadence uses bank-level encryption in transit and at rest. Bank connections are handled through Plaid, and your bank login credentials are never stored by Cadence. See the Security article for two-factor authentication, passkeys and the rest.
Does Cadence sell my financial data?
No. Cadence never sells your data, never uses it to train AI models, and never shares it with third parties for advertising.
Is there a free version of Cadence?
No, but every plan starts with a 14-day free trial. After that, plans start at $1.99 USD per month billed annually. Every plan includes all of Cadence’s features - budgets, net worth tracking, goals, reports, portfolio tracking and the smart features. The paid tiers differ only in how much bank syncing they include.
What happens when my free trial ends?
You choose a plan to carry on. A payment method is required to start the trial, so cancel any time before it ends to avoid being charged. Your data is preserved whether you subscribe immediately or come back later. See Account & Subscription.
Can I use Cadence without connecting a bank account?
Yes, entirely. Manual transaction entry, CSV import and manual account balances cover everything. Bank syncing is optional and available on Cadence+ and Premium. Plenty of people prefer the manual approach for the control it gives.
Can I get bank syncing on the Lifetime plan?
Yes, through the Bank Sync add-on. Cadence Lifetime is a one-time purchase and does not include syncing, because syncing carries an ongoing cost. The add-on is a small monthly subscription that switches it on without changing your plan, in a three-bank version and an unlimited version.
You will find it wherever you would normally connect a bank, as an Add bank syncing button, and you can cancel it at any time. Your transaction history always stays put. See Synced Accounts.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings → Account → Manage Subscription. If you subscribed on the web, that opens the Stripe billing portal. If you subscribed through the App Store, Apple handles the billing, so it takes you to Apple’s subscription settings instead - and only Apple can cancel an App Store subscription. Your access continues to the end of your paid period either way.
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Export Data. You get a CSV of your transactions, downloaded straight to your device with no waiting. Budgets, goals and assets are not included. See Privacy & Data Management.
What happens when I delete my account?
Deletion is scheduled rather than instant. Your bank connections are disconnected straight away, and your data is permanently deleted 30 days later.
During those 30 days you can change your mind: sign back in, open the account page, and choose Restore my account. Signing in alone does not cancel the deletion. A restored account keeps its transaction history but needs each bank linked again.
Cancel any paid subscription before deleting, including the Bank Sync add-on, since deletion is blocked while one is live.
Why don't my transactions match my bank exactly?
Synced transactions can take a few hours to appear, and pending ones take one to three business days to settle - an amount can shift slightly when it does. If transactions are still missing after 24 hours, see Troubleshooting Connections.
Why does one of my budgets look far too high?
Nine times out of ten, a transfer between your own accounts has been counted as spending. A credit card payment or a move to savings should be categorised as Transfer or Investments, which keeps it out of your budgets. See Transfers & Payments.
What's the difference between categories and budgets?
A category describes what a transaction is, like Food and Drink. A budget is where you are tracking the spending, like Groceries. Categories are a fixed built-in list; budgets are yours to name. See Categories.
Can I track accounts in different currencies?
Yes. Cadence handles CAD, USD and GBP. Set your Primary Currency under Settings → Currencies and every total is displayed in it, while each account keeps its own. Only Canadian and US accounts can be bank-linked. See Multi-Currency.
Is Cadence available in the USA?
Yes. Cadence supports both Canadian and American banks and account types, and handles CAD, USD and GBP.
Does Cadence work offline?
No. Cadence requires an internet connection. Your data is stored securely in the cloud and accessible from any device - iPhone, iPad, Android or a web browser.
How is Cadence different from Monarch, YNAB, or Copilot?
Price and focus. Cadence starts at $1.99 USD per month compared with $8.33/m for Monarch or $9.08/m for YNAB, both billed annually. It is built for Canadians, with TFSA, RRSP and FHSA tracking that YNAB does not support and Copilot cannot offer because it is US-only. It is privacy-first: your data is never sold or used to train AI models. And all features are included in every plan - only bank syncing costs extra. See our full comparison.
