Plan Overview

How this period is going against your plan, and what is still to go out.

Choosing a Period

The Week, Month and Year buttons beside the title set the period. The card opens on Month, and your choice is remembered on that device.

What each period covers
PeriodCovers
WeekSunday through Saturday of the current week
MonthThe current calendar month
YearThe current calendar year

Weekly figures are worked out differently enough to have their own article. See Weekly Budgeting.

The Six Figures

The figures across the top of the Cash Flow card
FigureWhat it shows
Cash BalanceYour chequing plus savings, whichever are switched on.
October IncomeAll income expected in the period, received or not.
October SpentWhat has already gone out, or into goals, in the period - including spending outside your plan.
Cash CoverageCovered, Short, or Short on a date. Always about this month.
After PlanExpected income, less what is spent and what is left to spend, with a + when positive.
Left To SpendWhat your plan still has to go out in the period.

The labels follow the period: This Week’s Income and Spent This Week on Week, and the year on Year. After Plan is how the period moves your cash. Cash Coverage has its own article - see Cash Coverage.

The Tiles

Under the figures is a tile for each part of your plan - one column on a phone, two on a wider screen. Each shows its share of income, and a bar that drains as money goes out. Every tile except Debt Payments opens its tab when tapped.

The tiles and what each one reads
TileReads as
Income$1,500 of $6,000 received
Bills & Subscriptions$45 left to pay of $180
Monthly Budgets$400 left of $2,000
Yearly BudgetsWhat is left of the whole year's yearly budgets, with what you spent from them this month beside the label
GoalsWhat your dated goals need this month. On Week and Year, the planned amount
Debt Payments$300 left to pay, with Covered or an amount Short beside the label
  • A bar turns red when a line runs over its plan.
  • Each bill counts only toward its own amount, so overpaying one bill does not hide another that is still due.
  • Only what you actually spend from yearly budgets counts toward the month, so a big yearly purchase makes that month heavier.
  • Debt Payments appears when you have debts with something to pay. A debt goal with a minimum payment moves there from Goals. See Cash Coverage.

Under the tiles, a line such as Includes $250 spent outside your plan. shows unplanned spending. It always counts.

On WorryFree, Monthly Budgets is your limit

With WorryFree switched on, the Monthly Budgets tile takes your WorryFree limit’s name and measures your spending against it.

Cash Flow Settings

The gear beside the period buttons opens Cash Flow Settings, with two tabs:

  • Cash Flow - switch Bills & Subscriptions, Goals, Monthly Budgets and Yearly Budgets on or off. A line switched off leaves the tiles and the figures.
  • Cash Coverage - which cash and which debts count. See Cash Coverage.

These settings are saved to your account, so they follow you to every device.

What Is Left Out

The card is measuring spending, so several things are deliberately excluded from the totals:

  • Transfers and investment contributions, because moving your own money between accounts is neither income nor spending.
  • Transactions in accounts you have excluded from budgeting, such as investment and registered accounts.
  • Anything deleted, and anything flagged as a duplicate.
  • Reimbursements. Rather than counting as income, a reimbursement reduces the expense it is linked to.

Pending transactions are included, so a charge that has not settled still shows here. See Transactions for how pending charges settle.

If the Card Asks for Income

With no income set up, the card reads Add your income to see your cash flow instead. Add an income source and the figures appear. See Income.

The Rest of the Tab

Under the Cash Flow card, Overview shows a headline card for each of the other Plan tabs: Budgets, Bills & Subscriptions, Income and Goals. Tap a heading to open that tab.

The Calendar and Transaction History

These used to sit under the Cash Flow card. They now make up the Activity page:

  • Recurring Calendar - a month calendar of your recurring activity, marking the days a bill is due and the days income is expected, with the two shown differently when they fall on the same date. Tap a day to see what is on it, and tap an item to open the bill or income source behind it.
  • Transaction History - every transaction from the last twelve months, in one long list that scrolls with the page and keeps loading as you go. The search box pins under the header as you scroll, with a sort button and a funnel for the six filters beside it. See Searching & Filtering. It is fixed at twelve months - it does not follow the Week / Month / Year buttons on the Cash Flow card.

The history loads only once you scroll near it, so a fast look at the top of Activity never waits on a year of transactions.
