Report Periods
Both reports offer seven periods. They are not the same seven, and the two that share a name are not the same window.

Two Reports, Two Period Lists
The Reports section has two tabs - Budget, which it opens on, and Net Worth. Each carries its own period bar above the report, and each bar has two segments: the period on the left, and what that period resolved to on the right.
The lists look similar and overlap in four places. They are separate lists, and the reason is that the two reports measure different things. Budgets are set per month, so a budget report has to line up with month boundaries or the “Budgeted” figure would cover more time than the spending beside it. Net worth is a daily line, so it has nothing to gain from snapping to the first of a month.
The Budget Report’s Seven Periods
Three of them are anchored: you pick the period, then you pick which one. Four are rolling: they resolve against today and there is nothing to pick, so the second segment stops being a menu and simply states the window it landed on.
| Period | Anchored or rolling | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Month | Anchored - pick a month | That one calendar month |
| Quarter | Anchored - pick a quarter | Its three calendar months |
| Year | Anchored - pick a year | January to December of that year |
| Year to date | Rolling | January of this year up to the month you are in |
| Last 3 months | Rolling | This month and the two before it |
| Last 6 months | Rolling | This month and the five before it |
| Last 12 months | Rolling | This month and the eleven before it |
- Open Reports and stay on the Budget tab.
- Tap the left segment of the period bar and choose a period.
- For Month, Quarter or Year, tap the right segment and choose which one. For the other four there is nothing to choose, and the right segment names the resolved window instead - something like Jun - Aug 2026 or Sep 2025 - Aug 2026.
Every Budget Window Is Whole Months
None of the seven can start or finish part-way through a month. A rolling period counts back in whole months from the one you are in, and the far end never runs past the end of the current month, so a window can never charge you budget for a month that has not happened yet.
That is why the current month is always included and always complete. “Last 3 months” on 20 August covers June, July and all of August, not the 90 days behind you.
The Net Worth Report’s Seven Ranges
The Net Worth tab has its own seven, and every one of them is a rolling lookback ending today. There is no anchored option, so the right-hand segment is always a read-only label: it says Since and the date the window actually starts on, or All history for All time.
| Range | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Last 30 days | The 30 days ending today |
| Last 3 months | Three months back from today |
| Last 6 months | Six months back from today |
| Year to date | January 1 of this year to today - the range this tab opens on |
| Last 12 months | Twelve months back from today |
| Last 5 years | Five years back from today |
| All time | Every day Cadence has a record for |
Why the Same Name Covers a Different Stretch
Four names appear on both tabs - Year to date, Last 3 months, Last 6 months and Last 12 months - and on the Net Worth tab each one starts a few days later than its Budget twin.
- Budget, Last 3 months, on 20 August - 1 June to 31 August. Three whole calendar months.
- Net Worth, Last 3 months, on 20 August - 20 May to 20 August. Three months back from the day you are looking.
Year to date is the one that agrees: both start on 1 January. The other three differ by however far into the month you happen to be.
Read the second segment before comparing two figures
Each bar states its own resolved window, so if a number on one tab does not match a number on the other, that label is where to look first. The two reports are not disagreeing - they are answering for windows that start on different days.
Annual Budgets Only Appear on Annual Windows
An annual budget holds a whole year’s amount, and nothing splits that amount across months. Folding it into a quarter would set a year of budget against three months of spending and print a total that no budget on the page adds up to.
So annual budgets count towards the Budget report’s totals, and get their own performance section, on Year and Year to date only. On a month, a quarter or any of the rolling windows they are left out entirely.
The Dashboard Chart Uses a Shorter List
The range buttons under the chart on your dashboard are a different, shorter set - abbreviations such as 1W, 1M, 3M, 6M, YTD, 1Y, 5Y and ALL, split between the net worth chart and the spending trend. They are not the period bar described here, and the two do not share a setting.
See Chart & Graph Modes for what each of those covers and which chart offers which.
